It was just a year ago that my senate campaign started questioning Mark Kirk’s credibility. We launched a massive research and investigation operation looking into the Kirkster’s past. The result was a blog with actual documents showing U. S. Senate candidate Kirk was a liar about his military service: www.MarkKirk.us. We ran statewide radio commercials exposing Kirk as a fraud:

Even after the primary we kept digging, filing Freedom of Information Act requests. And while local media continue to minimize or ignore Kirk’s lies, national media have become fascinated with Kirk’s lies. In less than a month Kirk has gone from a frontrunner to a joke.
Last week the New York Times demolished Kirk’s “teaching career” and showed his “experience” was nothing but another Kirk fib:

Saturday I held a news conference and disclosed Kirk’s “teaching” in London violated United Kingdom law. He was acting as an “illegal alien.”
And over the weekend Steve Benen, a blogger for Washington Monthly (see above), breached the dam and suggested Kirk’s exaggerations rise to the level of a mental problem. I have not had any contact with Benen, and have no idea who he is. But I have been posting claims for some time that Kirk has a personality disorder.
Now that the issue of Kirk’s sanity has been raised by an out-of-state writer, Kirk is doomed. The implosion of his campaign will be one of the most bizarre stories of the 2010 election campaign cycle. In 45 years of political involvement I have never seen anything like Kirk’s record of lies and delusional claims. People outside Chicago have begun to notice.
My mother used to be a speech teacher at the University of Illinois, and is now a retired speech professor. She always told her students that ridicule is one of the most powerful forms of rhetoric. Kirk has now become the target of ridicule. He is doomed.
In the meantime hard left blogger Ellen Gill has provided a campaign song for Kirk: “The Great Pretender:

Kirk’s exaggerations keep catching up with him. His latest claim, that his campaign was attacked by an Alexi Giannoulias “goon,” appears to have been another act of dissembling and exaggeration:

Finally, Democrats are now wondering about their own man who is running to replace Kirk, Dan Seals. Seal ran against Kirk in 2006 and 2008, and never uncovered any of Kirk’s lies and exaggerations. How did Seals spend tons of cash, and never develop a research capacity to expose Kirk? Seals would have four years of congressional seniority behind him if he had run a competent campaign against Kirk. Seals is now the Democratic candidate in Kirk’s old congressional district for the third time. In Illinois, nothing succeeds. Like failure.

Chicago News Conference April 14: Andy Martin blasts Mark Kirk
Former U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says he is working to defeat Mark Kirk for the U. S. Senate. Martin calls Kirk a “fundamentally immoral” individual. Martin says he hopes to raise money to run anti-Kirk ads in the summer and fall. Martin notes that two Republican Party leaders, one of whom now sits on the Illinois party’s statewide Finance Committee, are still accusing Kirk of homosexuality in comments posted on the Internet.

"First, Mark Kirk is a fundamentally immoral individual,” Martin will charge. "He worked to cover-up pedophilia in the U. S House of Representatives and tried to get pedophile Mark Foley to run for reelection. I find Kirk’s behavior sickening.
“Second, I continue to be deeply concerned by the allegations of Republican leaders such as Jack Roeser and Ray True, whose charges about Kirk’s private life are still there to be heard on the internet. The fact that Roeser is now supporting Kirk, while continuing to accuse Kirk on the Internet of possibly being a ‘freak in the sexual department’ involving in ‘pornographic sex,’ says more about Roeser’s confused state of mind than it does about the truth of Roeser’s original accusations.
“Third, Kirk shamelessly lies about and inflates his military record. Kirk’s military falsifications and exaggerations were an issue late in the primary. My advertising attacking Kirk’s abuse of the U.S. Navy uniform was later picked up by a reporter.
“I am continuing my Freedom of Information activity to seek the release of Kirk’s hidden military files. There is nothing more despicable than a fraud such as Kirk who seeks to inflate his military service and ‘rip off’ the valor of our men and women in uniform for his own political aggrandizement. Kirk is a sick, sick man. Kirk should be criminally prosecuted for his military abuses and falsifications.
“Illinois news media have been Kirk’s accomplices in spreading Kirk’s bogus military claims. In one utterly absurd example in January, Kirk issued a false press release to the Associated Press, which then uncritically reported Kirk’s lies. Kirk then printed the AP’s lies on his own campaign literature, in effect laundering his lies through the Associated Press. This is journalism? I have posted the U. S. Navy’s response to my earlier FOIA request, in which the Navy could find no records to confirm Kirk’s claim that he ‘served’ in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2008 [see www.markKirk.us and click on letter link].
“In reality and practicality Kirk has been a visiting congressman who tried to collect a second salary by falsely claiming he was doing ‘double duty’ on ‘active duty.’
“In an ‘endorsement,’ left-wing Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg called Kirk a ‘new Dick Durbin’ and Richard Daley’s favorite Republican. Is this what Republicans really want? Another Durbin? A Daley Republican? Is Kirk part of the corrupt bipartisan Combine, or what?
“Finally, Kirk bribed the Republican Party with $50,000 in cash to rig the primary in his favor. The ‘election’ was a travesty. Cash-and-carry democracy is not democracy at all. It is Washington Beltway corruption and control of our local electoral process. Kirk used the Republican Party’s apparatus as his own campaign machinery. When a primary is rigged, the candidates that emerge from that process are not entitled to party loyalty.
“Politics involves compromise. On many issues it is reasonable to accommodate opposing views. But when Kirk seeks to cover-up pedophilia and to encourage a pedophile such as Mark Foley to run for reelection, there is no room for compromise. There is no place for pedophiles in the U. S. Congress. Voters may have been confused when I called Kirk a ‘de facto’ pedophile. There is no confusion in my mind. He who supports and endorses is just as guilty in the eyes of the law.
“Likewise, Kirk’s sham ‘marriage’ reflected a deeply disturbed psyche. I predict it’s going to be a ‘hot’ summer for Mr. Kirk.
“Bottom line: I am not supporting Kirk. I am working to defeat Mark Kirk. He is a fundamentally immoral individual.
“I plan to support all of the other members of the Illinois Republican ticket. While I may not agree with all of them on every issue, they are within the zone of reasonable accommodation. Kirk is not.
“I hope to raise money to run anti-Kirk ads during the summer and fall.”
